In honor of the new Scream 4 movie, I would like to sit back and reminisce about why I am a Horror movie fan. I am going to list my favorites and if you think I missed any great ones, let me know....

What is Horror?

Since the 1970's, what can truly be defined as horror has changed. Horror movies depicted death as real and the villain as crazy people living on the outskirts of society (anyone remember Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes?).
But then the mid to late seventies spawned a new type of villian, the boogeyman and that changed how horror movies were made and what audiences have come to expect.
Horror movies consist of a simple formula that No One deviates from now. Oh, you get some gems every now and then (saw, hostel), but the beauty of horror films is that horror can found anywhere.
A child's smile, a quiet little town, a crowded elevator, or an abandoned van with blacked out windows. All of these things are terrifying and simple.
No convoluted stories about scarecrows, leprechauns, haunted mansions, ghost towns, desendants of witches or ghouls.
I ranted about the genre becoming glossy and the various bad remakes coming out but now I am pleading with the fans. Stop wasting your money on new horror movies and remakes of just plain bad horror movies, spend your money on some good old "classic" horror movies.
I just spent last Saturday watching Creepshow 1,2, and 3. No blue screens, bad props, but more enjoyable than anything new I've seen.

Upcoming horror movies

Well.....I have a list of some upcoming Horror films and kiddies it's NOT looking good. Sorry for going off topic with whole Christmas thing, it just pisses me off the way it's soooo commercial. Anyhoo, the list includes such gems as Friday the 13th part 28, sorry, I mean, 2, a much needed remake of Child's Play, a remake of Fright Night (why????), Cloverfield 2 (I guess the monster had a baby and it took this long for it to surface), Wolf Creek 2 (the guy who survived didn't call the police?), and my personal favorite.....Drum Roll Please........Children of the Corn: Dweller.

Really? Really? Does anyone else feel hurt?

Ok. Maybe Final Destination 5 will be alright. At least you can count on some cool death scenes. Speaking of death scenes, those of you who are big on zombies.....Hollywood hasn't forgotten about you.........A movie called Cannibals that sounds like a...sorry about this.....REMAKE of Zombie Holocaust is coming out.  You Can Scream Now........................or maybe roll your eyes and groan.

The horror genre is going to hell in a handbasket if someone doesn't start making great horror movies again. No more raping the 1980's and early 90's. It's time for some Blood, Sweat, Tears, and more Blood:)

Christmas is a rip off Not a Holy Day

It is a fact that Jesus's birthday was around Harvest time not in December, yet many people will gather at churches to celebrate Christ's birthday. Many television stations will air movies about the christmas spirit that clearly connect Christmas with the birth of Jesus.

Why?

Are we so fragile that the thought of celebrating Christmas as a holiday to give/receive gifts and not a religious day so scary that we would rather celebrate a lie?

I am soo happy that there is a place I can get this off my chest. What is up with all the glossy horror movies?
When I was younger, horror movies made the hair stand up on the back of your neck and if you saw it at home, you ended up turning every light on in the house.

Remember, Black Christmas? I loved how the killer was never unmasked. Now, the killer would be some Johnny Depp look alike pouting about how he was abused. Remember Evil Dead? The Little Girl Down The Lane? The Masque of the Red Death? Alice, Sweet Alice? Last House on the Left(original)? Audition? The Devil's Rejects? Feast?

Those movies gave me creeps. In a good way. These days, I go to see a horror movie and I am disgusted by how every teen looks like the stepped out of the cast of Dawson's Creek and though the villain is different, they all seem to be remakes of Scream. I don't want the hero to always win, I want gore that looks real, and I want an ending that no sees coming.

I implore the directors and screen writers in Hollywood to stop remaking classics and start coming up with really scary movies and put actors we are not familiar with in it. Make us pay attention to the storyline not just sit and wait until the next princess or frat boy gets it in the head with the meat cleaver :)
